Erika's mom was a professional dancer on Miami Beach in the 60's.
She got Erika started early in dance.
A lifelong student of Martha Mahr's School of Ballet in Coral Gables, Erika also trained at the Summer Dance Intensives at the School of American Ballet, American Ballet Theater and The Juilliard School in New York City.
A gymnastics background gave Erika a competitive edge in the world of dance. Dismissed by some as a "trick dancer," the added strength and flexibility lent itself easily to working with a variety of choreographers.
This is Bavarian Schuhplattler dance.
Often performed at Oktoberfests, Erika is a part of the Gauverband Nordeamerika, preserving the age-old customs, lore and dress of the German and Austrian Alps. She performs around south Florida with The Original Auerhahn Schuhplattlers of Miami.
Erika's love for classical ballet never fully translated into company work.
Even though she performed several years with the Miami Ballet and as a supernumerary (extra) with the Royal Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and others, her ballet background is foundational to her wider spectrum of work.
"There are certain skills you cannot fake."
It was on the advice of a casting director friend when Erika was 6 to "Start building her skillset."
When you love what you do, you do it more.
When you do it more, you find new paths.
